St. Petersburg State University currently has an enrollment of more than 27,000 undergraduates and more than 5,500 graduate students. Every year about 2,500 foreign students from more than 90 countries of the world participate in various academic programes. The University faculty - our pride. Out of more than 5 000 professors - 1100 professors are doctors of science, more than 2600 are candidates of science and 42 academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The degree educational programs are realized on 62 specialities, 41 bachelor programs and 31 master programs. 28 000 students, 4 000 post-graduate students, applicants and doctoral candidates receive education at the St. Petersburg State University.

In November 2009, Russian President D.A. Medvedev signed a law granting St. Petersburg State University the special status of "a unique scientific and education complex, an oldest institution of higher education in Russia being of a great importance to the development of the Russian society". The right of giving its own diplomas with the official symbols of the Russian Federation has also been granted to University.

St. Petersburg State University comprises 22 faculties and 14 research institutes at the faculties which carry out work in the fields of mathematics, biology, physiology, chemistry, geography, geology, language and literature, management, physics and sociology. Specialists are trained in 71 specialties, Bachelors - in 41 fields of study and Masters - in 30 fields of study.
